Disease Management Programme

Disease Management (DM) is about reducing health risks for patients with chronic diseases and at the same time, saving them money. It provides the patient with an integrated treatment. So, the patient will get advise from a nutritionist, reminders for regular checkups and get his weight monitored — all under one roof. Basically, someone else (read experts) becomes responsible for your health.

It’s the need of the hour as patients today have less time to keep appointments with doctors or include lifestyle changes. And with diabetes, cancer, hypertension and heart diseases on the rise, it’s important to have DM programmes.

Experts feel that DM can help in cutting down huge costs incurred when chronic diseases aren’t monitored and treated properly. In effect, it will mean saving many precious lives. It is, as experts say, no longer about just writing a prescription.
